Copyright

A “copyright” is the exclusive right of the copyright holder to an original expression or a creative work. To be protected by copyright, the expression must be original, comprise some creativity, and be fixed in a tangible form. The copyright arises the moment the expression is fixed in a tangible medium.

Copyrights generally apply to works characterized as one of the following: literary, dramatic or performance, audiovisual, musical, graphic, or artisitic. A copyright has a definite term, typically sixty years from the beginning of the calendar year next following the year in which the work is first published or sixty years from the beginning of the calendar year next following the year in which the author dies (when the work is published).
