Geographic Indications

In a “geographic indication” the name of a geographic place is used in connection with a product or service sold in commerce to authenticate the origin of the product or service and thereby authenticate the quality of the product or service. The registration of a geographic indication provides a certification that the product or service possesses certain qualities, is made as per traditional methods, or enjoys a good reputation, due to its origin. The geographic indication is generally traditional products, produced over generations, that have gained a reputation for its specific qualities.
